WUZZUF Ecosystem Programs

Nine programs and partnerships, from 2016 to 2026, that turned Egypt’s leading job site into a career partner for students, developers, startups, employers and national initiatives: from internships and startup matchmaking to Google’s Mobile Application Launchpad, Egypt’s first software tournament, developer meetups, WUZZUF Unlock ’18 and, on my return, the Startup Support Program.

The objective

Close the gap between what Egypt’s graduates and young professionals can do and what employers hire for, and make WUZZUF more than a job board: a career partner that sources, assesses, trains, badges and connects talent with startups, companies and national programs.

My role

As Programs Manager, then Strategic Partnerships & Programs Manager at BasharSoft, the company behind WUZZUF and Forasna, I designed and ran WUZZUF’s programs and partnerships: concept notes and proposals, partner agreements, budgets, operations, campaigns, on-the-day delivery and post-event reports, with Google, MCIT, Udacity, TIEC, RiseUp, A2OJ, AlMakinah, Geek Factory, Egyptian Geeks and Facebook Developer Circles.

Startup Talent & Co-founder Matchmaking at RiseUp Summit

The first event of its kind in Egypt: connecting early- and growth-stage startups with high-potential talent and senior professionals, for key roles or as co-founders, inside the region’s leading entrepreneurship summit. I wrote the concept, agreed the partnership with RiseUp, selected startups and talent, and ran it on the day.

RiseUp16, 9 December 2016, Oriental Hall, AUC Tahrir: a talk by WUZZUF’s CEO, a founders’ panel on hiring key talent, equity and culture, startup and talent introductions, then facilitated networking. It returned for RiseUp17 with senior professionals, and again at RiseUp18.

The second fair, on 18 March 2017 in New Cairo, added buses for graduates from three meeting points, a CV clinic, assessment offers, hiring-needs signs on every booth, and WUZZUF Inbox: a code-based tool that let employers save the profiles of candidates they met straight to their WUZZUF accounts.

A2OJ Code Battle by WUZZUF

Egypt’s first national software tournament, built with A2OJ, the competitive-programming platform used by 14,000+ Egyptian developers. Students and professionals solved algorithm and data-structure problems in the style of top tech-company interviews. WUZZUF was the platinum partner: I shaped the proposal, ran the marketing and landing page, registration through WUZZUF profiles, venues, certificates and badges, and the link to hiring partners.

Training bootcamps

WUZZUF as career partner for two of Cairo’s leading coding bootcamps: promoting each program and its graduates, sourcing and filtering applicants through technical assessments and WUZZUF Badges, and supporting graduates into jobs.

AlMakinah

AlMakinah · FireUp full-stack bootcamp

A 12-week, full-time immersive bootcamp: 600 hours from programming concepts to a full-stack web developer with a portfolio. WUZZUF ran the technical assessment that shortlisted applicants for FireUp in March 2017 and for FireUp 2.0 later that year, gave the students career sessions such as a Tech CV Writing workshop, and connected graduates with employers.

geekfactory

Geek Factory · iOS bootcamp

A 10-week, part-time iOS bootcamp from February 2017 for candidates with strong computer-science backgrounds, chosen through coding challenges and interviews, with hiring preparation and career networking with tech companies and startups.

Next Technology Leaders is Egypt’s national technology-learning initiative, led by MCIT and delivered by ITIDA’s Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), building young people’s skills in ICT and electronics through courses on Coursera, Udacity and edX with study-group mentors. I agreed WUZZUF’s role as its career partner:

  • Recommending courses and programs based on market demand and the skills gap among job seekers.
  • Special badges on the WUZZUF profiles of certified graduates.
  • Promoting the program to WUZZUF’s job seekers and employers, and alerting graduates to matching jobs.
  • Career advice, assessments and tracking of graduates’ hiring.

WUZZUF Meetups

WUZZUF Meetups

A meetups program connecting developers and young professionals with industry leaders, run with Egypt’s developer communities. The Developer Circles from Facebook Cairo Meetup, supported by Egyptian Geeks and powered by WUZZUF, in August 2017 brought engineers from Facebook and leading Egyptian tech companies to talk about information security, building products that last, React and Redux, software architecture, production engineering and hiring front-end developers, with 630+ registrations. In November 2017, WUZZUF and AlMakinah organized the next Developer Circles Cairo Meetup together, at the American University in Cairo. WUZZUF Meetups also ran its own sessions, such as a Front-End Development Meetup with iHub on becoming a better web engineer, React fundamentals and what front-end development really is.

WUZZUF Startup Support Program

WUZZUF Startups

A startup enablement and employment acceleration framework, by WUZZUF and powered by BasharSoft, that I designed on my return as Program Director. Its vision: position startups as credible, structured employers that contribute measurably to national employment growth.
